“Butterfly Love” by He Zhanghao and Chen Gang, Yi-Wen Jiang (arr.)

Wu Man and New Zealand String Quartet at St Mary of the Angels on 28 September 2017, presented by the New Zealand School of Music and Confucius Institute at Victoria University of Wellington.

“Butterfly Love uses a famous love story as a theme, adopting a wealth of opera music performance practices, combined with the Western genre of the concerto. The use of charming melodies, lively music images, strong ethnic style, and distinctive local characteristics, made this work deeply rooted in people’s hearts. The use of folk materials of China’s minority nationalities was extremely popular among Chinese composers during 1960-1980.” (Quoted from RNZ Concert: https://www.radionz.co.nz/concert/programmes/musicalive/audio/2018622486/he-zhanghao-and-chen-gang-butterfly-love)
