In this Webside Chat, Montana State Librarian, Jennie Stapp provides a brief recap from the August meeting of the MT State Library Commission, including the approval the new Strategic Pathway to MT State Library Certification, as well as plans by the Commission to update the Public Library Standards. A task force has been seated to make recommendations, and the full process of updating the standards will take more than a year altogether, with plenty of time for public review and comment.
The Workplan for the Montana State Library was discussed as well which includes several activities to consider and reconsider existing shared library resources and contracts under the management of Cara Orban.
Finally, the State Librarian and CE Coordinator presented some of the findings of the recent survey of public libraries about their plans and needs to assist their communities in getting a complete count in the 2020 Census. The survey – found here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MSL_Census2020 – will remain open until the end of August. Findings so far indicate that libraries are interested in having MSL coordinate a statewide effort to promote Census Day at the Library on April 1, 2020 and to provide resources and training to librarians across Montana.
