MEMOIRS OF A SPACEMOTHER: an Astropoetic Sci Fi Essay Film
by Treasa O’Brien, 2019
The looped video and sound work is projected on the ceiling of the gallery. The audience experiences it swaying in hammocks, standing or sitting on benches and beanbags. There is a reading and feeding area at the entrance/exit which has comfy seating. Guests can stay awhile and read classic feminist sci-fi novels, look through an old viewfinder at images from outerspace, breastfeed, rest, sit and think, or chat with one another. On the wall are sculptural casts made with the artists’ breasts before and after feeding her baby.
